| THE CHRISTIAN LIFE OF THE SCHOOL | ||
Wimbledon College is a Catholic Christian school in the Jesuit tradition. The Society of Jesus (Jesuits) is a religious order founded in 1540 by St Ignatius Loyola. The Jesuits have schools, universities, parishes, retreat houses and many other apostolates across the globe. Wimbledon College is one of nine Jesuit schools in the UK. The College has its own 200-seat Chapel (built in 1910) where Mass is celebrated each day. Stations of the Cross are followed in Lent and the Rosary is said in October and May. The school marks the liturgical seasons and great feast days of the Church with Mass in the Jesuit parish church. Parents and others are welcome to attend school liturgies on the understanding that space is often at a premium. The College Choir sings a traditional and challenging repertoire at school liturgies. |

| CONTACT | ||
Your first point of contact will usually be your son's Head of Line. The school's switchboard number is 020 8946 2533. This number may often be busy and it is better to phone your son's PSA or Head of Line directly. We aim to respond to parents within 48-hours. This is not always possible (especially at busy times at the start and end of terms) but we will do our best. If you contact the Head Master, your enquiry will most likely be passed to the person best placed to deal with it (usually a Head of Faculty or Deputy Head). If you have a complaint please see below. |

| SUPPORTING THE SCHOOL | ||
Parents make a significant contribution to the school (in excess of £120k a year). These funds, augmented by grants from the Jesuit Trustees and local Jesuit Community and from Old Boys and other benefactors, are used to support extensive extra-curricular activities and the building, facilities and grounds (which are owned and must be maintained by the Jesuit Trust). Every College family is asked to contirbute to the School Fund. The suggested amount is £36 a month but we recognise that some will be able to contribute more and some much less than this. Those families who pay tax are asked to Gift Aid their contributions. This enables the school to claim back from the Government an additional 28p for every £1 donated. Gift Aid accounts for some £34k of additional funding each year. The Head Master writes to thank parents in the Summer Term each year with School Fund Report (see right) setting out how funds have been used and what is proposed for the following year.

| EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES | ||
Wimbledon College offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities before, during and after school and at weekends. We encourage and expect every pupil to be involved in at least two activities. Wimbledon College has its own Army Cadet Force detachment. Boys in Y8 and above are eligible to join. Recognising the achievement of pupils is an important way of encouraging personal development and responsibility. Wimbledon College has formalised system of recognising achievement. |

| INFORMATION | ||
Day to day notices are published on the school's online Noticeboard which is updated daily in term time. Parents are asked to check the online noticeboard at least once a week. Please make sure to click your web-browser's refresh button if notices seem to be out of date. The school Calendar is also online and frequently updated. The Head Master writes to parents at the end of each half-term. The Head Master's letters are sent home with pupils and published on the school website. Consultations of parents' views are conducted from time to time and are also available on this website. In the summer term, parents are invited to a Parents' Forum which allows discussion of topics parents have raised as important. |

| ADMISSIONS | ||
Wimbledon College is a voluntary aided Roman Catholic secondary school for boys in the trusteeship of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). It is part of the provision of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Southwark and an apostolic work of the Society of Jesus. The school exists primarily to provide a Jesuit education for children of the Catholic community. Once it has met its historic and current obligation to boys of the Catholic community, Wimbledon College welcomes those who support the religious ethos of the school. However, the school is currently heavily oversubscribed and it is unable to meet the demand for places from all Catholic boys who apply. Each September, Wimbledon College admits 199 boys into Year 7 without regard for aptitude or ability. Once it has met this admissions number, the school will refuse places to further applicants because the school’s accommodation and resources are limited. |

| COMPLAINTS | ||
If you are a parent and wish to make a complaint, please contact your son's Head of Line in the first instance. Please read the school's Compaints Policy first - often matters of concern can be resolved to everyone's satisfaction before a formal complaint needs to be made, If you have exhausted other avenues and wish to make a complaint, you may do so by emailing or writing to the Head Master. He will usually ask a Deputy Head to investigate and get back to you. We are committed to putting things right where they have gone wrong and are happy to apologise where an apology is due. It is helpful if you give as much detail as possible which might identify individuals (such as the type of bag they are carrying, or what colour house stripe is on their blazer pocket, or what age you think they might be). We are committed to supporting considerate and good behaviour in public and, where permitted by law, taking action against boys who fail in this respect. |
