Wimbledon College Cricket Cricket is a major sport in the summer term. The College regularly fields 11 teams against some of the strongest independent and state schools in the South East. Each age group has at least A and B teams and the majority of fixtures take place midweek on a Games’ afternoon. Training starts with indoor nets in the Spring term and each squad trains at least once a week. In addition to the regular set of fixtures, the College also enters the Surrey Schools Cups and competes well, with most age groups usually getting to the quarter final stage. Cricket also forms a large part of the PE curriculum in the summer term and boys are taught the basics of batting, bowling, fielding and wicket keeping. As well as superb indoor nets, based at Edge Hill, the College is also blessed to have its’ own picturesque cricket ground and pavilion at Coombe Lane which is used for home matches. Talented boys who excel at both Cricket and Athletics are able to compete for both College sports as all training and fixtures are arranged on different days.
