The Governing Body
The College has eighteen governors. Although from many different backgrounds, we are all women and men from the local community who have volunteered to offer our knowledge, professional skills, and experience because we share the common desire to ensure the best education for the boys who attend the College.
What We Do
We appoint a Head Master with the skills, ability, insight and vision to successfully manage and run the school and we work with him to ensure that the College has clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction. We hold the Head Master to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff. We also oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.
We meet together as a "Board of Governors" once at the beginning of each school year to elect a Chair and Vice- Chair, set up committees, appoint designated Governors for the year and, most importantly of all, review the schools examination results and plans for the coming session.
We meet again as a "Board" at the end of each term. We consider detailed reports from each sub-committee, the Head Master and designated governors. We also discuss and decide on a range of other policies on how the College should be improved and once each year we discuss and approve the School Development Plan.
How We Became Governors
We have become Governors of the college in different ways. Four governors are elected by parents, one is elected by staff, another is nominated by the Local Authority, the Head Master become a governor when appointed and eleven are appointed by the Trustees of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits, who founded the College in 1892. As a Board, we can co-opt two additional governors when a particular need arises.
