Wimbledon College Athletics Track and Field Athletics is, alongside Cricket, a major sport in the summer term and over the years has seen a great deal of success. The Athletics’ squad train on the field on Monday and Tuesday after school and the fixture list sees the boys compete every Wednesday against some of the best schools in the South East. The College have dominated the Merton Borough Championships at every age group for the last 20 years and also fare very well each year in the English Schools Track and Field Cup. The College has also produced a number of International Athletes including Tremayne Gilling (GB U20 - 2008) and Martin Giraud (GB U17, U20 – 1999, 2002). Athletics is also part of the PE curriculum and boys are taught all track and field events, ranging from discus right through to hurdles and relay. The College uses the superb facilities at Wimbledon Park Track for its home fixtures and boys involved in the squads also use this facility for Games lessons. Talented boys who excel at both Athletics and Cricket are able to compete for both College sports as all training and fixture are arranged on different days. Indoor athletics – boys in the lower line take part in regular winter fixtures which act as preparation and a form of springboard for the summer athletics program.
