Lower Line

Spanish is studied by Population 2.  

At this level, there is a focus on building a vocabulary base, as well as correct verb tense use.  Spanish will be approached through reading, writing, listening, and speaking - with the intention of developing increased confidence and linguistic fluency.

Lower Grammar Term 1

Higher Line

At GCSE, there are four assessed components:  reading, writing, listening, and speaking.  
For current Syntax (Y11) the writing and speaking component are examined through controlled assessment, with the reading and listening exams being sat at the end of year 11.  
For current Grammar (Y10) there will be no controlled assessment and  all components will be assessed at the end of Year 11.

The course advances what has been learnt at key stage 3 to include: more complicated verb and tense use, as well as a much greater range of vocabulary. 

Topics include: Media andculture, music/film/reading, fashion/celebrities/religion, blogs/internet, sport and leisure, hobbies/interests, sporting events, lifestyle choices, travel and tourism, holidays, accommodation, work experience/part-time jobs, and product or service information.
 

Grammar Term 1 

  • Describing yourself, your family and friends 
  • Talk about your relationship with them 
  • Explain what your future plans are with them 

Grammar Term 2

  • Describing my town 
  • Talk about the different shops 
  • Say what activities you can do in your town 

Grammar Term 3

Syntax Term 1 

  • Describe your work experience

Syntax Term 2

Syntax Term 3

  • Describe the dangers of drugs such as alcohol and tobacco.

 

Sixth Form

Modern Languages are highly regarded by universities and studying Spanish at A level offers the opportunity to not only continue with Spanish in further educations, but also integrate it as a part of many degrees, thus adding an extra life skill to your CV.  The emphasis in new syllabuses is on contemporary issues and communication skills, the ability to listen to ,speak, read, write and understand Spanish.  There is an opportunity for subsidised work experience abroad during February half term - in Spain  which has proved an invaluable experience for previous students.

Students may study topics on aspects of Spanish life and literature in class, but students are expected to extend their studies at home using various forms of media.
