Boys are identified as “More Able” if they fall in the top 10% of the year group in terms of their attainment or if they have a particular talent in one or more specific areas. Setting is used in core subjects to enable greater challenge for higher ability pupils
The College has developed strong links with Oxford University, and this enables more able boys in Grammar and Syntax to participate in a course run by Oxford, culminating in a visit to Oxford in Year 10 and in mock supervisions in Year 11
In the Sixth Form, there is always a sizeable group of students with ambitions to study at prestigious universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. The College provides specific support for these boys, including weekly enrichment sessions, advice on preparing to write personal statements and interview preparation.
Extra-curricular opportunities are a strength of the College, and many departments run varied enrichment opportunities for boys throughout the year, which more able boys are encouraged to attend.
