Inspiring futures. Raising aspirations. Equipping students for success.

At Wimbledon College, our careers education is rooted in a commitment to equality, aspiration, and opportunity for all. We are proud to deliver a careers programme shaped by the Gatsby Benchmarks, the CDI Careers Development Framework, and the latest Department for Education statutory guidance.

A Structured Journey from Year 7 to Post-16

From Year 7 through to Sixth Form, every student follows a carefully designed pathway that builds their:

  • Self-awareness and personal development
  • Employability skills
  • Understanding of the world of work

Through a blend of employer encounters, workplace experiences, and curriculum-linked careers learning, our students gain the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices about their future.

Careers Across the Curriculum

Careers education is not limited to PSHE or standalone activities. Every subject at Wimbledon College contributes to our careers provision by highlighting the skills and opportunities associated with their discipline. This cross-curricular approach ensures students make clear connections between classroom learning and real-world careers.

We also integrate Labour Market Information (LMI) to help students understand local and national employment trends, future skill needs, and high-growth industries.

Inclusion and Tailored Support

We are committed to inclusive, high-impact guidance. Our programme provides targeted support for disadvantaged and SEND learners, ensuring every student can access opportunities and thrive in the world beyond school.

Together, we empower students to imagine and achieve a future they are proud of.

Destination Data

As boys leave Syntax and students leave Poetry, we collect destination data. This helps us to inform our careers programme and develop our action plan for the following year. Our Year 13 destination data can be found on this section of the website.

Baker Clause

We are fully compliant with the Baker Clause, and our aim is to ensure that boys are learning in an institution most suited to their learning abilities and needs. From Rudiments (Year 8) boys learn about different schools such as UTCs as well as opening our doors to FE Colleges. We take some boys in Lower Grammar and Grammar on trips to Colleges to see vocational learning in action and have a taste of these types of courses. In Grammar and Syntax, we deliver a Pathways assembly to highlight the different routes available to boys and ensure we display any information we receive about College Open Days on our Higher Line notice board. We also work closely with other local schools and boys hear about T Levels and what the course entails. In the Sixth Form, we ensure that we try and broaden the exposure to as many schemes and opportunities available to students. The use of Unifrog, University and Apprenticeship Fairs and one-on-one interviews with our Careers Advisor means that they have exposure to lots of resources to help them make the best decision for their futures.
